 There are three types of pumps used in hydroponic systems. Submersible, non-submersible, and semi-submersible. In a hydroponics system pumps are used to help pump and distribute the nutrients to the plants. The most common type of systems a pump is needed for are: The Ebb and Flow System, Nutrient Film Technique, and the Continuous Drip.
Submersible
Sits and pumps completely submerged inside of the nutrient solution.
Non-submersible
External pump that is outside of the nutrient solution and must remain dry.
